History and Establishment

Anwer Khan Modern Medical College (AKMMC) was established in 2008 in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Founded by a group of visionary educators and philanthropists, including the late Mr. Anwer Khan, a prominent businessman in Bangladesh, the college was created to provide affordable, high-quality medical education and healthcare services. Over the past 16 years, AKMMC has emerged as one of the top private medical colleges in Bangladesh for Indian students seeking MBBS abroad.

Academic Programs and Affiliation

AKMMC offers a 5-year MBBS program followed by a 1-year mandatory internship, making the total duration 6 years. The curriculum is conducted entirely in English, aligning with the language requirements of international students, particularly Indian applicants. The program is Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council (BMDC)-approved and affiliated with the University of Dhaka, one of South Asia’s most established universities. Graduates receive a degree recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India, the World Health Organization (WHO), and other global medical bodies.

Teaching Hospital and Clinical Exposure

The college is attached to a 750-bed teaching hospital, Anwer Khan Modern Medical College Hospital, located on campus. This facility provides students with hands-on clinical training from the early stages of their education. The hospital’s diverse patient inflow ensures exposure to a wide range of medical conditions, enhancing practical learning. Clinical rotations in departments such as surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrics are integral to the program.

Why Indian Students Choose AKMMC

  1. Affordable Fees: The total MBBS program cost is $44,000 USD (approximately ₹36,08,000 INR at 2026 exchange rates), significantly lower than private medical colleges in India.

  2. No Language Barriers: English is the medium of instruction, and no language proficiency tests (IELTS/TOEFL) are required.

  3. NMC Compliance: The program meets NMC guidelines, ensuring eligibility for Indian students to return and practice in India after clearing the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) or the upcoming National Exit Test (NExT).

  4. Indian-Friendly Infrastructure: Hostel facilities include twin-sharing rooms with modern amenities like central heating/cooling, laundry services, and an Indian mess serving hygienic, culturally familiar meals.

  5. Proximity to India: Located in Dhaka, the college is easily accessible for Indian students, with frequent flights connecting major Indian cities.

Admission Criteria and Process

Indian students must:

  • Qualify the NEET UG exam (mandatory for 2026 admissions).

  • Have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, securing at least 50% aggregate marks.

  • Be at least 17 years old by December 31 of the admission year.

The admission process involves submitting academic documents, paying an advance tuition fee ($10,000 USD non-refundable), and securing a confirmed admission letter after full payment of $44,000 USD.

Key Facilities and Student Life

  • Hostel Capacity: Spacious accommodations for international students, with strict adherence to safety and curfew rules.

  • Extracurricular Activities: Opportunities to participate in medical camps, research projects, and cultural events.

  • Library and Resources: Access to a well-stocked library with digital resources for academic support.

Recognition and Global Standing

AKMMC is listed in the WHO Directory of Medical Schools and recognized by the NMC (India), ensuring graduates can pursue postgraduate studies or practice in India after clearing licensing exams. The college’s affiliation with Dhaka University further strengthens its academic credibility.

Challenges and Considerations

  • Indian students must adapt to Dhaka’s climate and cultural environment.

  • While the FMGE pass rate for AKMMC graduates is not publicly disclosed, students are advised to prepare rigorously for the exam.

What Students Say

4.0 from 3 reviews

Anwer Khan Modern Medical College Hospital, located in Dhanmondi, Dhaka, is a well-structured and reputable private teaching hospital attached to a modern medical college. The hospital offers a wide range of specialist treatments across departments such as cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, oncology, and pediatrics, supported by advanced diagnostics like 128-slice and 64-slice CT scanners, MRI, and fully equipped ICU/CCU services . While patients gain access to experienced doctors and modern care, the cost of treatment is considered above average—surpassing many public hospitals in Dhaka . The facility is thoughtfully designed: air-conditioned with lifts, generator backup, elevators, basement parking, 24/7 pharmacy, and safe CCTV monitoring . However, the hospital buildings are split across two blocks separated by a public road—with no internal pedestrian linkage—so patients must cross outside to move between departments, which can be inconvenient. Despite this, its excellent medical services, modern infrastructure, and teaching hospital environment make it a strong choice for those seeking quality healthcare in Dhaka.

Tanvir Hossain

One of the better hospitals in this area having excellent facilities with expert doctors. The architecture of this hospital is unique because once you enter the hospital there is a corridor that goes down and up again. I haven't seen anything like that in other hospitals. The facilities include CT scans, Ultrasonography, MRI, Blood tests, X Ray, smear tests and many others. The cabins are clean and well organized. The staff is well behaved and they genuinely care about the patients. Doctors are very highly qualified and do research on their respective fields. Among other things there are at least three cafeterias and the food is good enough and hygienic. There are two places for saying prayers and regularly prayers are held. There is almost every facility that should be available in a high end hospital and they try their best to make the patients better.
