La Salle University Overview

La Salle University, established in 1863 in Philadelphia, USA, is a private Catholic institution known for its commitment to academic excellence and education. As part of the global De La Salle network, the university emphasizes accessible, student-focused learning, blending tradition with modern educational practices. With a world ranking of #654 in 2026, La Salle University attracts students from diverse backgrounds, offering programs designed to meet international standards.

Academic Reputation and Key Achievements

The university is recognized for its high placement rate of 95.2%, ensuring graduates secure employment or pursue advanced studies within six months of completing their degrees. La Salle University’s programs in Business Administration, Nursing, Psychology, and Education are particularly popular among international students, including Indian aspirants seeking globally accredited education. While the university is primarily known for undergraduate and graduate courses, its affiliation with medical education institutions ensures compliance with global accreditation standards like WHO, NMC (India), and ECFMG, making it a viable option for students aiming to practice medicine internationally.

MBBS (MD) Program Details

La Salle University itself does not directly offer an MBBS program. However, its global partnerships and recognition allow Indian students to pursue the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree through affiliated institutions in the Philippines, such as the University of St. La Salle (USLS) and De La Salle University Health Sciences Campus. These programs are structured as 6-year courses (5 years of academic study + 1-year internship), taught entirely in English, and align with NMC (India) guidelines for eligibility to appear in the FMGE/NExT exam.

Key features of the MD program include:

  • NMC and WHO recognition, ensuring global employability.

  • Clinical training in affiliated hospitals with modern infrastructure.

  • Affordable fees compared to private medical colleges in India, though specific costs for La Salle-affiliated programs are not publicly listed.

Fees and Financial Support

La Salle University’s general annual tuition fees average $39,700 (approximately ₹32.9 lakh) for non-medical programs. While MBBS-specific fees for affiliated institutions are not detailed in the research data, the Philippines is widely known for offering subsidized medical education without donation requirements. Scholarships and financial aid are available based on academic merit and need, though applicants must contact the university’s Admissions & Scholarships Office for precise details.

Campus Facilities

  • Hostel Facilities: On-campus and off-campus accommodations are available, with Indian/vegetarian food options to cater to international students.

  • Infrastructure: Modern classrooms, research labs, and clinical training centers ensure hands-on learning.

  • Support Services: Visa assistance is provided, though airport pickup is not explicitly mentioned.

Why Indian Students Choose La Salle University

  1. Global Recognition: Affiliation with WHO- and NMC-approved institutions ensures eligibility for licensing exams like FMGE/NExT, USMLE, and PLAB.

  2. English-Medium Education: Removes language barriers during clinical rotations and daily interactions.

  3. Cost-Effective: Compared to Western medical schools, La Salle-affiliated programs in the Philippines offer lower tuition fees and living costs.

  4. Cultural Adaptability: Hostel facilities with Indian cuisine and a growing Indian student community ease the transition for international learners.

Admission Process and Eligibility

Indian students must meet the following criteria:

  • Qualify for the NEET UG exam (mandatory for MBBS admission abroad).

  • Submit academic transcripts, passport copies, and medical certificates.

  • Attend an interview (often conducted via video call).

  • Secure a 9(f) student visa after receiving an acceptance letter.

Applications for 2026-27 typically open in November 2025, with deadlines varying by program. For example, BA (Hons) programs in Singapore close on 14 March 2026, while Barcelona campus admissions require pre-enrolment payments by 10 July 2026.

Conclusion

La Salle University’s reputation for academic rigor, combined with its partnerships in medical education, positions it as a strategic choice for Indian students seeking affordable, globally recognized MBBS programs. Its emphasis on ethical healthcare training and compliance with international standards makes it a trusted destination for aspiring medical professionals in 2026.
