FMGE pass rate is the most practical metric when choosing a medical university abroad. If you cannot clear this exam, you cannot practice medicine in India after your MBBS -- so university choice directly affects your career.
Based on 2024 FMGE data, here are the top-performing universities with meaningful sample sizes. Georgian American University leads at 80.33 percent. Tashkent Medical Academy (Uzbekistan) achieved 100 percent but with a small cohort of 4 students, so the number should be read with caution. BAU International University Batumi (Georgia) recorded 63.29 percent. Crimean Federal University (Russia) came in at 54.80 percent. Far Eastern Federal University (Russia) achieved 66.7 percent.
At the country level, Georgia has the highest average FMGE pass rate among major destination countries. Russia has a lower country-wide average of about 12.5 percent, but its best individual universities perform well above that. Kazakhstan averages around 18.5 percent.
Small cohort sizes matter when reading this data. A university with 4 students appearing and all 4 passing shows 100 percent -- but that tells you less than a university with 200 students and a 55 percent rate. Look at both the pass rate and the number of candidates who appeared.
Clinical training quality correlates with FMGE outcomes. Universities with more supervised patient care hours tend to produce better exam results. The FMGE tests clinical reasoning, not just textbook recall, so hands-on hospital experience matters.
Universities below are sorted by reported pass rates. Use this alongside fee data and NMC recognition status to make your decision.
