Kumudini Women’s Medical College Overview

Established in 2001, Kumudini Women’s Medical College (KWMC) in Mirzapur, Tangail, Bangladesh, is a premier private medical institution exclusively for women. Located approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Dhaka, the college is part of the historic Kumudini Complex, which spans 110 acres of greenery and includes the known Kumudini Hospital with 1,050 beds. Founded under the Kumudini Welfare Trust of Bengal (KWT), the college was established to advance women’s medical education and continues the legacy of its founder, Rai Bahadur Ranada Prasad Shaha, a visionary philanthropist who also established the 750-bed Kumudini Hospital in 1944.

Academic Programs and Curriculum

KWMC offers a five-year MBBS program followed by a one-year compulsory internship at Kumudini Hospital, ensuring hands-on clinical training from the early stages of education. The curriculum is aligned with the University of Dhaka and adheres to global standards, making it compatible with the National Medical Commission (NMC) guidelines in India. The program is taught entirely in English, facilitating smooth adaptation for Indian students preparing for licensing exams like FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) or NEXT (National Exit Test).

Accreditation and Recognition

KWMC is recognized by:

  • National Medical Commission (NMC), India
  • World Health Organization (WHO)
  • Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC)
  • FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research)

This recognition ensures that graduates can pursue medical practice globally after clearing relevant licensing exams. The college is also affiliated with the University of Dhaka, further validating the academic rigor and quality of education.

Fee Structure and Financial Considerations

The total MBBS program cost for the 2025–2026 session is USD 44,900 (approximately INR 35,69,550), inclusive of tuition, hostel fees, and other mandatory charges. The fee structure is designed to be accessible for middle-class Indian families, with no hidden costs.

  • Single-storied academic buildings housing departments like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, and Forensic Medicine.

  • Administrative offices, a students’ common room, and a library with medical resources.

  • Hostel facilities equipped with modern amenities and Indian food options to cater to international students.
